For week 3 I had the girls look at, draw, and try to identify some fossils I purchased. I looked around and found a few sheets with the most common fossils. The most useful one was on Wikipedia. (I love Wikipedia.) I’m pretty sure that some of these are not quite right, but it was really about the process and being able to handle something that was around that long ago.

We also talked about plate tectonics and Pangea/Gondwanaland. The girls used fossil evidence to show how the continents tied together.

Oh, and these books tied in beautifully to the last few weeks topics. I’ve been reading one a week because they are quite long. I really like the way they bring the topic to elementary level without dumbing it down.

Love those books! They are great. I think we get them off the shelves each fall.
