Up to the Eyeballs

As you’ve no doubt heard we’ve been pounded with snow this fall. Yes, I said fall. Winter arrives here at 01:08 tomorrow morning. Having lived in some really snowy places I’m not easily impressed, but when the Globe ran this graphic this morning they really drove it home that this has been one seriously snowy December. What I love about this chart is the wild variations that occur. We’ve received significantly more snow that Boston has, so I would guess that we’ve seen well over 30 inches this month.

The chart above is from the Blue Hill Observatory south of Boston. You can see we almost got as much snow this month as during the whole winter of 2006. 2006 was the 5th least snowy (December – February) and the 10th least snowy on record. They’ve been keeping records at Blue Hill since 1885!
