Lucca

Today we left Venice and headed over to Lucca in Tuscany. We bought our train tickets a day early just to be sure and Piper was thrilled to have her very own seat the whole way. 🙂 After very little wandering and only asking directions three times we arrived at our apartment. Despite the slight navigational glitches it’s already obvious that Lucca is going to be much easier to get around than Venice and so far it is much, much mellower.
We arrived at about 3:00 and were met by the owners Luciana and Piero who are incredibly sweet. The building was built in the 16th century and has the original beams and floors. Pietro is an architect and stripped and redesigned the whole apartment. It’s pretty much perfect with everything we could possibly want. I almost cried when I saw that Luciana had stocked the kitchen with ninety percent of the groceries I would have picked up tonight so we wouldn’t have to worry about shopping right away. With the addition of some balsamic vinegar, basil, and garlic I was able to put together a delicious dinner of bruschetta with salad. Needless to say we are happy campers. Tomorrow the plan is to day trip to Florence. For now I’m going to finish the laundry and enjoy the lovely bottle of wine our hosts provided.
