Birthday Girl

Presents were first thing in the morning.  Favorites this year included a calligraphy book, a very soft fleece FHS blanket, and of course Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.  She also received some wonderful art inspiration books from Uncle Mikey and Aunt Carrie.

Somewhere along the line we started a tradition of one balloon per year of age.  What can I say? It seemed practical at age three.   I tried to convince her that since she was eleven this year she should start going backwards but she wasn’t buying.

Though Piper’s birthday was Friday, she decided she wanted to share her cake out at the barn on Saturday.

It turned out to be particularly fun since it was also Elizabeth’s birthday.

This year’s cake was strawberry cake with lemon frosting.  A few little glitches along the way so it wasn’t really a beauty but all agreed it was tasty.

No pictures, but Sunday we did our celebration with our next door neighbors.  Similar to last year I made a fruit salad “cake”.  They gave Piper two huge jars of her favorite–pickles.  I hope they know how much we appreciate them standing in for our far away family all these years. 🙂
